Common questions
What size do I need to punch a mat?
For a matted canopy of hydrilla or hyacinth, 1 to 2 oz is the working range, and most anglers settle around 1 to 1-1/2 oz. Anything lighter tends to sit on top of the mat rather than break through it.
What about flipping cover I can see through?
Scattered wood, dock posts and grass edges do not need punching weight. 1/4 to 1/2 oz pitches quietly and keeps the fall slow enough that a pressured fish will still eat it.
What sizes do you stock?
3/16, 1/4, 3/8, 1/2, 5/8, 3/4, 1, 1-1/4, 1-1/2 and 2 oz. That covers light pitching through heavy punching. Some anglers fish 2-1/2 or 3 oz in the very thickest Florida and California mats; 2 oz is the top of our range.
Does a heavier weight give me a better hookset?
No. Weight controls how the bait gets through cover and how fast it falls. Hookset power comes from your rod, your line and how much slack you pick up.
Why is tungsten smaller than the lead weight I am used to?
Our weights are a 97% tungsten alloy at roughly 18.0 g/cm3 against lead's 11.34, so about 1.6 times denser. The same ounce takes up around 37% less volume. Worth knowing that is volume, not length — the weight is roughly 14% shorter and narrower, not 37%.
Flipping Weights
Tungsten Edge flipping weights are built for anglers who demand durability, sensitivity, and a compact profile when fishing heavy cover. Made from 97% pure tungsten, our flipping weights are significantly smaller than lead, allowing your bait to slip cleanly through grass, wood, and docks with ease.
Designed with EdgeGuard™ No-Chip technology, these tungsten flipping weights resist chipping and cracking while helping protect your line and maintain long-term performance. The insert-free, polished line channel reduces line wear while maximizing feel, so you can detect subtle bites and changes in bottom composition with confidence.
Flipping weights are ideal for Texas rigs, creature baits, compact craws, and pitching or flipping presentations in shallow to mid-depth water. Whether you’re targeting bass around laydowns, brush piles, or moderate vegetation, tungsten provides unmatched sensitivity and control.
Available in multiple sizes — including popular options like 1/4 oz, 3/8 oz, and 1/2 oz — Tungsten Edge flipping weights give anglers the versatility to match changing conditions and cover types throughout the season.
